Behind the Black Prosperity on Corridors initiative

BPOC is an anti-gentrification & displacement strategy, which focuses on increasing Black wealth through business and land ownership. BPOC was created to address the needs of African American businesses impacted by COVID-19 and the Civil Rights uprisings, which closed 41% of Black businesses, disrupted several other Black businesses, and caused economic fragility

A crucial element of Black wealth generation remains the presence of Black businesses and land ownership in local neighborhoods and along major corridors. Black wealth strengthens local economies, provides jobs for African Americans, and creates both cultural and general destination places across diverse markets. The BPOC strategy increases the circulation and retention of Black & general dollars, which are essential for the growth of the Black middle class.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Increase ownership of commercial properties

  • Increase sustainability and profitability

  • Increase Black wealth & job creation

  • Increase internal circulation & retention of the Black dollar

  • Increase marketplace diversity and destination places

  • Increase the number of Black businesses on corridors

  • Create a BPOC network of business leaders

  • Create a BPOC directory and online marketplace
